Unveiling a menu and being one of the few privileged to taste it before everyone lip smacks on it is a wonderful feeling in itself. I was invited by FBAI to sample Moshe’s new menu on the 21st.
An afternoon of food, drinks with good people ensued a fun meet.
A lowdown on the how menu fared –
1. Hummus platter
To begin with, a lovely plate of three colored hummus arrived! The three being the Beetroot Chili, Cream & Sundried Tomato and Broccoli. The hummus fanatic in me was happy to see these interesting additions. The beetroot chili won everyone’s palettes. The Lavash served alongside made it all the more better. A successful experiment indeed!
2. Fresh Pear and Rocket Salad
A bright beautiful salad made of all things nice – It has Pear, Rocket Leaves, Cucumber, Alfalfa tossed with Mustard Orange and Honey dressing. Roasted Walnuts gave a nice crunch. Quite light and refreshing.
3. Harissa chicken skewers
Oh boy ! One bite into this classic signature starter by Moshe’s and you will find yourself lost in those scintillating flavors. This is bound to set your taste buds swinging. The skewers are sinfully marinated in a Harissa Marinade of mature Red Chilis, Garlic, Cumin and Vinegar. These soft and juicy chicken skewers qualify for a delicious bar snack. Try it !
4. Portobello Mushroom Soup
Ideally should have been a comforting mushroom concoction but it lacked the punch. It had no interesting flavors and I would suggest you to skip this. Also, with the mercury soaring gradually, a hot soup is too much for Mumbai.
5. Brick chicken
The chef explained how pan searing chicken with a brick on top retains the flavorful juices in it. We could taste the flavors of rosemary and garlic. It is served on potato slits and shallots . Baby Tomato Sauce and Pesto Beans complete this main course. The tomato sauce was more or less like a normal puree.
6. Massaman Curry with Lemon Grass Rice
It is interesting to see how Moshe’s believes in variety. This rich robust curry is a lovely conflux of Thai, Malayan and Indian flavors. Curry and rice, being a soulful choice makes a great lunch for me.
7. Gooey Chocolate Cake
Sometimes the most simple and comforting deserts leave you with the sweetest of memories. Supremely rich and decadent, served with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, this is clearly what dreams are made of. I highly recommend trying this.
If around the area and you happen to feel parched, head over to Moshe’s as their bar is NOW OPEN.
Moshe’s even serves some lovely jams and breads. Pear and Vanilla is my personal favorite.
